Pisces: Year of the Horse

In a charming mixture of sea life, Thierry Chatelain depicts Horse-Pisces adrift in exotic seas. His finely painted kelp, anemones and coral both hold the composition together and provide us with a virtuoso display of technique. As we might suspect from this painting, the Horse-Pisces is a colorfully eccentric personality.

Emerald, chartreuse, sage and aquamarine, shades of the Pisces favorite, green, are utilized throughout. Other sea creatures glow with warmer shades, providing contrast and using the favorite colors of the Horse, flame orange and ocher. The seahorse is ideally rendered with textural grooves and curving form as are the clown fish, painted in orange, black and white. In the background mysterious Neptune, watery ruling planet of Pisces, reminds us that we are in the realm of astrology and not of scientific art. This circular focus is mirrored in the ascending domed jellyfish.

Pisces is known for its humanitarian qualities, its downright zaniness and its dramatic nature. The Horse is known for the same. This is an absolutely original personality, as original as Chatelain’s painting, and just as hard to pin down. The Horse, as the Chinese say, gallops freely; Pisces flows with the currents. In combination we can expect a vibrant and alive personality. One minute the duo moves in a certain direction, then abruptly changes course and heads in another. The ordinary, the mundane and the boring terrify this person. Mutable and passionate, Horse-Pisces needs a good cause for which to apply its energy and dazzle. Then this person uses all their powers of insight and wisdom to pinpoint the essence of the situation and to move toward the brilliant solution of a Horse-Pisces.
